Confessionals asked for Obama voting Catholics!!

In sharon Stones old newspaper today there was an article about how the Catholics were asked to give condessional if they voted for Obama!!! Isnt that OUTRAGOUS!!!
I guess its cause he is for the womans right to choose.
God when are the Catholics going to join the upcoming 10's??????? We have a world population problem.
Catholics along with Mormons have sunk to all new lows. Especially those Catholics asking there flock to give conffesional if they voted for Obama!!
What are they doing keeping tabs? Wonder how many are auctually coming fforth to confess....
To me the scumbags of the Earth right now are the Catholics, Mormons and Knights of Columbus for interfering on our gay marriage Prop 8.
Its been legal in Massachierts for years and they arent falling off the coastline. Shame on these suppresive groups!!
Shame obn the Catholics for asking there flock to give a Confeesional if they voted Obama. Thats low!!! Someone contact the ACLU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whose decree was this? The Pope's? If not, I don't believe it's more than some bishops flexing their fear muscles for political reasons.

I get what you're saying here, about Prop. 8 being mostly the cause of religious groups outside California (which sickens me--why is this not illegal?), but that is a separate issue from some bishops asking Catholics to treat voting for Obama as a sin. The ACLU has no jurisdiction there, as there is separation of Church and State (although it often feels like there isn't).

It's illegal no matter what state they're in, and I believe that California was looking into at least the LDS involvement.

And on the flipside, doesn't shit like this kind of trivialise the act of confession? I mean, you're supposed to be confessing your sins to God, not just having a whine. Should I be rushing to confessional because I thought Diane Vickers sounded a bit throaty the other night?

Why are we discussing this when there's no link and the source is most likely the National Enquirer or another "loid"?

<<It's illegal no matter what state they're in, and I believe that California was looking into at least the LDS involvement.>>

It seemed like it should be, I thought perhaps it wasn't because 2.5 years ago an activist from Virginia came to KC and got something on the ballot and city council has been using just about every excuse it can to not put it through except citing the headperson's non-resident status within Missouri.

Good to know, and also good to know Cali is investigating.

I was going to say that I don't think the out-of-state thing is the issue, churches aren't supposed to be involved in electoral politics. I decided to just go looking for what made me think California was looking into it in the first place, and it was this - it's an editorial, but some facts are laid out. I wasn't quite correct.

The Prop 8 Campaign Money

California’s fair-elections commission is investigating a complaint against the Mormon Church’s role in campaigning for Proposition 8, which made marriage illegal between people of the same sex. Based on the facts that have come out so far, the state is right to look into whether the church broke state laws by failing to report campaign-related expenditures.

Proposition 8, which California voters passed on Nov. 4, overturned a ruling by the California Supreme Court and wrote discrimination against one particular group of people into the State Constitution. After it passed, tens of thousands of people rallied in cities across the country in support of same-sex marriage. The California Supreme Court said recently that it would review whether Proposition 8 was constitutional.

Mormons were a major force behind the ballot measure. Individual church members contributed millions of dollars and acted as campaign foot soldiers. The church itself also played an unusually large role. Michael R. Otterson, the managing director of public affairs for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints — the full name of the Mormons’ church — said that while the church speaks out on other issues, like abortion, “we don’t get involved to the degree we did on this.”

Fred Karger, the founder of a group called Californians Against Hate, who filed the complaint, contends that the Mormon Church provided significant contributions to the pro-Proposition 8 campaign that it did not report, as state law requires. The Fair Political Practices Commission of California is investigating, among other things, commercials, out-of-state phone banks and a Web site sponsored by the church.

If the commission finds that the church violated state reporting laws, it could impose penalties of up to $5,000 per violation, and sue for additional amounts. The Mormon Church, which says it is sending information to the commission, says it did nothing wrong.

Churches, which risk their tax-exempt status if they endorse candidates, have more leeway in referendum campaigns. Still, when they enter the political fray, they have the same obligation to follow the rules that nonreligious groups do

Heres a link but not the one I wanted

I couldnt find the exact article that ran on either Sunday or Monday in The San Francisco Chronicle that Sharon Stone is always polishing up with her ex who actually has the paper.
I looked through some searches but couldnt find the aritcle but it was more then just this one person below in this link that isnt even assiated with Newspaper. If someone finds the Op-Ed type piece that has one side and the other please post if you are at this website. Im pretty sure that the other article mentioned it was many Dioseses ( I think that is a correct term for a group or brach of churches within a main church)
Anyway here is one example but there are others.
Oh and really sorry to hear OS, love your user name!
