I don't think Independant is a party? But I didn't know there was a non-partisian box either.

I'm kind of surprised they're bothering at all, although I suppose the recorded calls are cheap to make. But it appears that at this point they are starting to lose Republicans. Palin has been related to the sideshow circuit of doing rallies for crowds who still like George W. Bush.

however i have now had three calls with des moines area code which i do not answer and they do not leave a message

I checked the NYS form, and there is an “Independence” party. The no-party option is “I DO NOT WISH TO ENROLL IN A PARTY”. However, I am sure that Mr. Wildwoman and everyone here who has referred to being registered independent means that aren’t registered in a party – it’s all pretty clearly marked. I assume the vernacular was formed as ‘registered independent’ before this party was around, and it just didn’t change. And the voter ID would say "Independence Party" if it meant that, so I suppose the official wording was just never changed.
