Media controversy is kind of a problem, isn't it. Because the media can justify running stories ABOUT the media controversy, while not being seen to have lowered itself to contributing to it.
Oh I don't know. I think the american media has been scrutinized quite a lot more than usual this election. The chants of "NBC! NBC! NBC!" during the RNC come to mind as well as the resulting demotions of the two msnbc anchors Olbermann and Matthews. And the Democrats' hatred of Fox is no weaker than before.
But you see, this is why I big bad bolded the word controversy. Because. Really? Over lipstick? Ok.

I saw that pic and somehow envisioned cricket getting all liquored up and being inspired to prettify the local livestock.
I find it odd how Palin is virulently anti-sex education when her daughter is the prime example of why teenagers need a fully comprehensive education in matters surrounding sex.

I'm not really concerned about that kind of reporting. I think that Palin is going to be really exciting until it becomes obvious that she's full of shit and when her rudeness in speeches stops being spunky and invigorating and starts getting grating and rude.
Furthermore, I think it's weird and RUDE that Palin used the pit bull / lipstick joke at the convention...as it's playing off of a really rude, misogynistic joke that was first about lesbians and later applied to Hillary.

I know what you mean. But I don't see that this especially jars with Palin's or the Republican Party's morality. Like you said, it's a shotgun wedding; I guess it's meant to be a deterrent, the expectation that, if you get knocked up, you better fucking deal with it.
I'm not completely dissing sex education, but surely kids these days with the internet and the incessant replay of popular culture kind of know that sex could lead to pregnancy if you're not using any kind of contraception? And what the fuck ever happened to parenting?
I could be wrong, since I was taught actual information (from my mother and in school), but I think abstinence-only education involves a lot of lying about how well contraception works.
By the way, I really kind of hate using this topic to talk about her. Calling her white trash is exactly what they want us to do.

I think that they just also tell their children not to have sex and call it a day. The usual objection to (real) sex education in school is that they don’t want their children being told anything about it. That’s why it’s so hard to work properly – those are the kids who really need it. I had real sex education in school, but I wasn’t dependant on the school to learn about any of that stuff.

I had pretty crap sex education at school, and I didn't get laid til way after I left. So I'm not convinced that there's a strict correlation here.
It's not a correlation of having sex but not having sex in a proper way to avoid pregnancy. I knew a lot of girls in high school who ended up accidentally pregnant by graduation or shortly after. There were some who honestly believed they couldn't get pregnant!
The US has some seriously fucked up sex ed.
