This country has a 15 trillion GNP per year. Run it on 14 trillion for a year, take the extra trillion and pay off the trade deficit to China. Renegotiate a deal with them so that doesn't happen again or close economic ties and face the facts that we don't have to import a damn thing if we don't choose to. We can make or create anything we need right here at home and have done so many, many times in the past.

A recession is imminent, and no candidate is the magic bullet that is going to prevent that. A depression needn't be. It's just a question of who handles it how, and how little hysteria is drummed up. But while people are naive enough to think that some kind of economic downturn isn't inevitable, the problem's going to worsen. With good leadership and minimal PR-bullshit, there's no reason why we shouldn't be able to ride out a recession. We've done it before, within my lifetime, and yes, it was sucky, but no, it wasn't the financial apocalypse some are predicting now (and were probably predicting then).
