I had a big conversation today with my boyfriend about the entire dilemma. I honestly came to the conclusion that if the UN or United States alone gets involved, they shouldn't try to help out. At the most try to help a negotiation be made, but I really think we should try and appease Russia. I look at it as a US cuba complex. Russia doesn't seem to want to take over anything but Georgia because they believe that due to it's location and such that it should be a part of their country. If Russia does end up wanting to take over more than Georgia, that is when the UN should take hold of what's exactly going on. Frankly I'm not that worried about the situation at the moment. If Georgia can keep their government, even better, but it should just be between the two countries.

Cool

Ohmigosh, I can not believe President Bush went the bullying route. Did you know all the Schools in America are teaching children to put up with bullies and just talk it out and not fight? For example if you are a girl walking to school and a bully pulls down your pants and undies you are suppose to just walk away and just let the teacher know and not whine about it… so the teacher can look at you and say, "everything is going to be OK"

In other words Bush wants Georgia to let Russia do what it wants and just tell the U.S. and then not whine about it.

The whole world is going to personally witness how America is going to dance around this Georgia and Russia issue..

This brings back the questions I ask years ago in kittyradio. The question is, “Why do the Russians always hide the Russian women?”

The Russian men should not be angry at the American men visiting Russia because it’s not America’s fault the Russian men drink and then pass out… Then the morning after the American men is giving aa American cigarette to the Russian wife as he states, Thank you ma’am” as he departs.

Bush hits Russia on 'bullying and intimidation' and 'why Russian men hide the Russian woman'- Yahoo! News

This Georgia mess is worst than a bar fight involving U.S. Marines and U.S. Navy... and the funny this the bar fight is always about some bar girl...

So is McCain going to turn this into an "Americans need a strong President in a dangerous world, with experience of killing and shit" home run?

The world economy right now isn't too good. Osettia hasn't been paying taxes to Georgia to fight the war in Iraq. The U.S. needs Russia to support the war on terror. Georgia blew it. If Russia gives some of the spoils to the U.S. I'm sure all will be forgiven.

I was in Estonia when this broke out, and funnily enough had been discussing the possibility of russia trying to gain back some of the territory they lost with the breakup of the soviet union. (The baltics and finland seem to be one of the few places in europe where they hate the soviets more than the nazis incidentally, but for understandable reasons).

russia has been trying to destablise georgie for a long time, there were incidents of russian planes bombing georgia awhile back, and they have been supporting the 'breakaway' regions for a long time, with the eventual goal of absorbing them back into russia. i think georgia took a gamble on either russia not reacting, or as a means of accelerating their accension into nato. either way the realists were right, thecold war didnt end, it just took a rest

Hate sells. Georgia is buying. The cold war IS over. The 'soviets' aren't anymore. Georgia couldn't have done more to 'destablize' things if they tried. What will fall to, it isn't likely to be russia though.

Obviously though Georgia doesn't want to join Nato, they want to be Nato. As far as that I don't think so and thank Russia, Georgia is no longer a loose canon. Georgia doesn't have much choice but to join Nato now, unless they want apologise to Russia. Personally, I think they should. Nato... Ha ha. Like Nato wants them.

nato has been courting georgia for the last couple of years, and following this the polish, british and french in particular are trying to push through their membership, they want an anti russian bloc to counter balance its regional power and curb its sphere of influence. georgia wants in for the security it offers, it has wanted to since independence.

I thought it was because they want the oil. Now I see. It's about the much higher moral and ethical position of Nato. Stupid russians should run when they get shot at.
