What will the New Golden Age bring to a world who lacks meaning?

Now more than ever, it seems worth reminding you that, since you are carefulcarpenter, citing "him" as a source when you've been accused of being insane really is staggeringly foolish.
As for the original post, maybe your world lacks meaning, but honestly, I don't see free energy helping you out much with that.

Maybe high petrol prices will be the change your generation is asking for. Every generation must suffer a monumental crisis before they get off their asses and make a positive difference.
"A meaningless life is mundane life; without crisis life cannot be appreciated fully, for spirit rises from the ashes of despair to reveal the bared soul and enlightened active participation in the search for primal meaning. Thus begins the carnal journey of discovery"
"The wildflower cries out in the silent valley; hope for a fresh and glorious spring"

If we have a crisis at the moment, it's that we've be shown a bunch of hippies getting all worked up and marching on Whitehall and we've been led to believe that that's how you change the world. The notion of getting so riled up that, gosh darn it, you jolly well go and shout about it (while wearing a giant comedy foam jester's hat for some reason) seems almost tailor-made to discourage people from actually doing the legwork that will make society better for them. Most of us, even in times of crisis, only have the capacity to pay attention to a single gesture, a revolution or a coup or a riot. But they don't solve anything. In the Internet age, these riots, these desperate bids to solve problems simply by "raising awareness" (as if 99% of the time the person who'd solve them wasn't "aware" a long fucking time before the seething masses he sees on TV) have been moved on-line, where protesting requires as much effort as clicking a new Facebook Cause. And frankly: good riddance. If anything, I think that may inspire those who aren't so stupid to do what they ought to.
But honestly, I don't think rising fuel prices really bother most people in this country much more than rising house prices. The market fluctuates, and we know this. People worry about it, but deep down, they know that these things happen and that it probably won't be the end of the world.
