World gas prices

Gas prices around the world

Think you pay a lot for gas? Perhaps you'd prefer to live in Venezuela.
NEW YORK (CNN/Money) – Gasoline prices in the United States, which have recently hit record highs, are actually much lower than in many countries. Drivers in some European cities, like Amsterdam and Oslo, are paying nearly 3 times more than those in the U.S.

The main factor in price disparities between countries is government policy, according to AirInc, a company that tracks the cost of living in various places around the world. Many European nations tax gasoline heavily, with taxes making up as much as 75 percent of the cost of a gallon of gasoline, said a spokesperson for AirInc.

In a few Latin America and Middle-East nations, such as Venezuela and Saudi Arabia, oil is produced by a government-owned company and local gasoline prices are kept low as a benefit to the nation's citizens, he said. All prices updated March, 2005.

Nation City Price in USD Regular/Gallon
Netherlands Amsterdam $6.48
Norway Oslo $6.27
Italy Milan $5.96

Belgium Brussels $5.91

How has your life changed? Obama promises change--so, is this the beginning to a new future? And how will you adapt to it?

This is how I prepared for change:

Firstly, I began searching for work closer to home.
I connected with my local community to see where I fit in.
I established a marketing concept based on searching for work locally.
I moved to a neighborhood that fulfills the needs of myself as well as my partner.
We have many hobbies and interests that we enjoy at home (including the internet).
We bought mountain bikes and can ride into town rather than going farther distances with the autos.
We own motorcycles which get over 45 mpg.
We keep our spending habits down to the minimum, so gasoline is budgeted.
I work from home 50% of the time.
We live more green.

--just a few ideas. How can you adapt to less driving?

Obama wants "Change".

What's our incentive to change?

Why You Should Embrace $4 Gasoline
Quote:
There's only one ultimate solution to the oil dilemma: to consume less oil.

Beyond the argument over who's to blame for $4 gas lies the reasoning that nothing will happen without higher prices getting us in gear. If gas were cheap, there would be no incentive to change. No one would care about developing new technologies, no one would bother driving more efficient cars, and no one would give a horse's patoot about conservation. If you can convince anyone that lower gas prices will entice people to cut back on consumption and give entrepreneurs an incentive to develop new technologies, you deserve the Ron Popeil award for ingenious sales skills. It just won't happen. Something as engrained in our culture as deeply as gasoline will cling to the "if-it-ain't-broke-why-fix-it" mentality until something, like higher prices, "breaks" it.

I'm not afraid to suck in the name of truth and knowledge. I accept people for who they are, but I don't have to believe their bs to feel validated.

There are valid reasons why gas is priced the way it is. Come on--Venezuela ($.17) ppg and $4.59 in California? Both are cheap compared to Europe.

Personal growth requires one to accept that they suck--but "no" it isn't the "whole fucking problem". I'm not so attached to my own belief system or ego-consciousness that I worry about sucking. Now, if I did intentional harm to others, physically or spiritually, then I would go beyond sucking to other pathologies that engage in self-denial, repression, avoidance, misperception, hooliganism, etc.

Increasing gas prices are far from evil intent or intentional spirit-breaking, control, lying, war, etc. We can choose to change or not, but we must face the personal responsibility of resistance to change(physical or spiritual).
