"Okay, carefulcarpenter, we'll sit down and talk.... only after you admit your are totally insane. Then.... after we've placed you in an asylum for the spiritually weird cyber-poets with imaginary friends...ha ha ha...then we'll talk about these fabrications of yours". *chuckle* ~~the Hooligans

McCain & Scott McClellan Propaganda Salesmen

Its funny that MSM is going nuts about this book that Mcclellan has written. I will say that it must have been difficult for him to go after the people he knew well. Obviously he had a lot of reasons to do it.
What the MSM is missing and we have not hit hard enough on. This actually is an attack on John McCain's judgment just as much as it is on the Bush Administration conduct of the war.
optimist's diary :: ::
McCain was right next to Bush and Cheney's side pushing the Iraq War with all of the ridiculous rationales we remember. McCain was the number one cheerleader outside of the administration pushing for this disaster. McCain is a neocon. Their crazy ideology is the reason for this disastrous war.
At that time, he was looked at as an independent moderate and his voice mattered, because Bush had beaten him in 2000 with such disgusting tactics in the South Carolina primary.
On March 12, 2003, McCain argued on behalf of the war in a New York Times Op-ed piece that he wrote, which was entitled, "The Right War for the Right reasons."
"After 12 years of economic sanctions, two different arms-inspection forces, several Security Council resolutions and, now, with more than 200,000 American and British troops at his doorstep, Saddam Hussein still refuses to give up his weapons of mass destruction."
-He did not have any weapons of mass destruction.
"Many critics suggest that disarming Iraq through regime change would not result in an improved peace. There are risks in this endeavor, to be sure. But no one can plausibly argue that ridding the world of Saddam Hussein will not significantly improve the stability of the region and the security of American interests and values."
-Iran is more powerful and the Middle East is much more unstable. We are weaker and less safe.
"Isn't it more likely that antipathy toward the United States in the Islamic world might diminish amid the demonstrations of jubilant Iraqis celebrating the end of a regime that has few equals in its ruthlessness?"
-McCain completely bought into the idea of American soldiers being celebrated as liberators.
"Our armed forces will fight for peace in Iraq -- a peace built on more secure foundations than are found today in the Middle East. Even more important, they will fight for the two human conditions of even greater value than peace: liberty and justice."
-This is the heart of the neocon garbage. It was just ridiculous to hear this type of stuff at the time. With more than 2 million Iraqi refugees, more than 4000 dead Americans, some estimates showing 100,000 dead Iraqis, and at least 3 trillion in costs to Americans, its clear that this propaganda did not turn out to be true.
Another example: On March 12, 2003 Sen. John McCain's was interviewed by Chris Mathews on Hardball. Here are two excerpts.
McCain said, "Our armed forces will fight for peace in Iraq, a peace built on more secure foundations than are found today in the Middle East. Even more important, they will fight for two human conditions of even greater value than peace: liberty and justice."
Chris Matthews asked: "Are you one of those who holds up an optimistic view of the post-war scene? Do you believe that the people of Iraq or at least a large number of them will treat us as liberators?"
McCain was just as bad as Cheney in pushing this unbelievable ideology. No where in this did McCain push for post war planning. He said that the war would cost us nothing. He argued that the Iraqis would pay for the reconstruction out of oil revenues.
Sen. Obama is right. Being President is about judgment and in his pushing of propaganda to encourage the American people to support the Iraq War, he displayed horrible judgment. He should not be rewarded with the presidency. For the entire duration of the war, he has been one of the most prominent supporters of this policy. It is a debacle. Its not exactly clear how we get out, but it is clearly that giving a promotion to someone who sold this propaganda is a mistake that I hope that American people will choose not to make.
