I watched a documentary about the Vatican Observatory. it's sortof a little known fact that the Catholic Church has has a longstanding (150 years or so) relationship with astronomers/astrophysicists and a number of priests, especially Jesuits, work for the Church as official church astronomers, who are doing some of the best work in the field.

it's a really bizarre (but probably good) thing, i think.

The church adapts to the times slowly. Since it is in the myth business, it needs to develop new expansions of thought into the Catholic version of the Christian myth-- thus the people who do not think for themselves have hierarchal authority to defer to.

I believe in the direct approach to the divine. So did Galileo.

I've never really got the appeal of Carl Sagan myself, but he is explaining, in a way, 4 (or 4+1) dimensional space quite well. Kinda, anyway.

I'm intrigued though, when you say "flatland thinking"... what do you think that means?

Did you watch both parts, right to the end? The very end of the second part is kinda important.

Today Bush live on Iraqi TV opologized over the shooting of a Quran by an American soldier. Bush was seen crying as he made his live Iraqi TV announcement.
