I don't follow, the article seems to be saying people just can't enter a new club/bar after 2am? Will that make much difference? I don't know much about the drinking culture in Australocianiciasia.

Normally with prohibitionary measures there's some sort of 'carrot' as well, this just seems like a random clamp-down?

when i go out i will generally go to one bar/club from about 11/midnight til about 3am and then go to another from about 3am - 6am so it'll pretty much cut my nights short which sucks

i think it'll just cause more fights since people will be on the streets, drunk and with no place to go.

I'd tend to agree. 2am seems a bit arbitrary and will probably stretch town centres & police at one point in the night, which is what the longer licensing laws over here were supposed to avoid. Would it be that much different if you had to switch venues at 1.45am instead?

I think places with binge-drinking problems have wider cultural issues, licensing on mainland Europe has always been pretty liberal and they don't anything like the alcohol-related problems. Clamping down on it just sends a message that its Big and Hard and Dangerous, and ultimately you can always get a drink somewhere.

We have 3am lock out in Brisbane and it's fucking disgusting. There are so many gross drunk cunts just standing around in the streets after lock out because they can't go anywhere, but they don't want to go home.

Sounds daft. We only tend to have that on public holidays.

bars have to stop serving alcohol at 2am here and most close by 3am. teh only exceptions are certain dance clubs where they still have stope serving alcohol but they stay open later, some all night.

but after 2am all the drunks are on the streets.

This is the most ridiculous thing ive ever heard....any amount of violence in the CBD on a saturday night is going to be exponential compared to what it is now! anyway, who stays in the one place all night?? grrrr! what's next? shut down the city at midnight??
