I was a little surprised to find that there wasn't a thread about the shootings this week, so here's one.

My friend works about 100m away from the school, and says the mood in the city is awful at the moment, as you can imagine. There's been footage of celebrations in Gaza, and to be honest I'm surprised that Israel hasn't retaliated (though probably because they don't know if the gunman worked for anyone?)...

Tonight my friend was drunk and ranting about how the UN should move in, establish a single state in the area and force them to live together under an appointed Government.

Force them to get along! Bus students across town to "integrated" schools!
I mean, it's just such a tragedy for all the children, and for the adults who aren't creating the problem, that so many people don't actually want to get along. Why wouldn't you want to get along? Why wouldn't you want peace? Hell, I'd want peace at any cost. I don't want to die, and I don't want to kill. I guess I can't really understand people, it's my biggest flaw I am sure.

The Israel/Palestine situation is very old news. They have been fighting for thousands of years. Let's face it.... They like killing each other. Why do you think they continue to kill each other? |

54 people were killed in Iraq at the same time the shootings took place. I especially loved the news coverage that followed.  |

what happened was awful, and will probably be used to retrospectively justify what the IDF has been doing this past week, but it wasn't entirely unexpected given how many palestinian civilians were killed. again, worthy/unworthy victims comes into play.
