"The African Union estimates that the continent loses as much as $148 billion a year to corruption." Jul 13, 2005
Food aid has fallen into the hands of government soldiers and charity money has been used to buy weapons for child soldiers.
and BBC still rulez the world.
You know, it's strange. I've been volunteering in Africa, live in Africa, was BORN in Africa, and the thousands of stories of children who have found a home, of families who were treated, are over passed with the pictures (everyone has seen them) of the little black bloated baby and his circle of flies.
There is happiness and don't get me wrong, there is turmoil, but I have seen both sides. Many people around the world have seen only one.

the world is **** about showing what a lovely place africa can also be.

on the flipside to the hardship and corruption and terror and starvation and darkness which is real, theres an amazing sense of community a warmth, the hope and survival and the millions of people who just get up every day and go to work and do their thing. the sense of humour and pride

it makes it worse.

It's true, Africa is a huge continent, every inch of it does not have the aforementioned starving babies with distended stomachs due to kwashiorkor. My sister spent over 8 weeks there in Africa and had only wonderful things to say.....
But if people would explore some of the other "learning" channels or docus they don't normally bother with they might find something positive in Africa. I've seen quite a bit when I used to have digitil but its true about the news only reporting the neg. But I suppose its better than NO coverage, which some places in the world don't bother with......
