not that it matters (UK), but i'm rooting for obama, too. | well it doesnt sound fun to me. there are going to be a bunch of sweaty self righteous people in a church screaming and yelling for you to come to their side. i was a part of the houston jerry brown campaign and politics is just a bunch of sweaty gross people trying to outshout the others. i hate it.
i would rather just vote, but i totally believe that we need obama, so im going and my husband is going and we are taking seth. ill point out all the gross sweaty people to seth and we can laugh at them.

i also did some stuff for the green party at the last election, canvassing etc, as used to run green soc bits here and there
generally stay away from that sort of politics though

why on earth did people want to ban him?
do you listen to his radio programme? it's on, like, saturday nights and he gets all these drunken bigots calling in and he totally wipes the floor with them. it's pretty ace! |

wanted to ban him as they didn't like him, and tried to find really stupid reasons to do it. then the uni newspaper sneaked toy guns into the auditorium and had a front page spread about how that meant he was irresponsible and clearly plotting the end of western civilisation. i dont mind gorgeous george too much but ive never been part of respect, just did it cos i thought the uni was being shitty for no good reason.

Whoa, I didn't realize KS caucuses instead of votes!
Apparently they are expecting such a huge turnout in Lawrence they moved their location to the fairgrounds.
It just occurred to me recently that I'm still registered in Missouri. It's a shame I can't afford to go down there to take part, as I'm probably moving back there in a few months anyway. *sigh* guess I'll have to just register here and wait until May. Of course for the first time ever perhaps the winning candidate will still be undecided and my vote might actually mean something? |

| | | I enjoyed it. Prime people watching. I've been here (IA) for the last three and this was the first one I attended. The chairperson (?) lives down the street from me and she said it was the biggest turnout she has seen in over twenty years in our district, by far. Last election there were aprox. twenty people and there were nearly two hundred this time.

Every state is awarded a number of delegates based on population. WHen people vote or caucus in the primaries they are not casting votes but appointing delegates.
There are separate delegates for the republicans and democrats. So it's an inner-party system with the person who receives some 2,000+ delegates getting the party's nomination.
And every state does it somewhat differently.
So yeah, american democracy is somewhat nonsensical. |
