It was part of their strategy to make Gore out to be somebody that exaggerated or even lied.
Gore woulda been better not to take so much credit. It amazes me how un-humble most politicians are ... when I think of it, I never met people that claim to be so great for everybody, not even close. Sometimes I just shudder at the self-promotion, mostly real jerks talk about themselves that way. Though of course they have to--nobody is gonna vote for a self-effacing person.
What he said was: "During my service in the United States Congress I took the initiative in creating the Internet."
I mean, that's a very blow-hard comment, and it's kinda, I dunno, open to ridicule ... What he did was help support the internet, and that's what he shoulda said. He got funding for it ...
Gore was a little too cheeky in many ways and it done him in, and I think he still is ...
