well i use mine too, and i think most journalists make an effort to use trustworthy sources, and absent that, they refrain from printing the story.

if im fighting im going to use the most effective menas of winning. if i were a republican and were going to smear obama, i would save it for when he was my opposition, especially if i werent concerned with him... if i saw him as not that big of a fish as compared to clinton.
no, this was either because the repubs are worried about obama (unlikely) or clinton was worried about obama (likely) |
i don't agree... if they try to discredit obama and use the clinton campaign to do so, they remove themselves from the picture. it's actually brilliant because all along, obama has had charisma and clinton has had the money. last year, when the rumors first started, there was no clear democratic frontrunner, but on the other hand you have two democrats with different strengths ... and back in January 2007, there were only lame prospects for Republicans. I can completely see using fear-- the usual MO fro Republicans -- to start a rumor ala Rove about the charismatic young hopeful from Illinois, and then blaming the Clintons for all nastiness.
Remember, what matters in campaign politics are not so much diehard party voters who vote the platform of their party, but independent and swing voters. These are also the people who will be turned off the most from smear campaigns. These people are the targets of Republican attention all the way until election time.
This smear campaign does more damage to the democratic party than it does to individual candidates.
