I don't get it, how do we go from there being another planet to the world ending? How would one cause the other?

I've never heard of a "dwarf dark sun", nor do I understand how anyone could realistically know its effects on the Earth if it only goes anywhere near it every 3600 years. However, I'm not aware of any instance c. 1600 BC that caused 80% of the population to die.

Several billion years and the solar system isn't as exciting as it was. Science fiction is far more interesting than reality.
