| | | Not only did Obama win, but he also got more women votes than Hilary, with Obama receiving 35% and Hilary 30%. I believe it was Mike Huckabee that received most of the women votes for the republicans.
I'm excited by Obama's win, it's not that I hate Hilary, it's just that I don't trust her at all. I'm also tired of her going on and on about experience, I think our current president has proven that experience doesn't necessarily make a good president. Also, her 'experience' as a senator and first lady isn't exactly squeaky clean.
As a side note, there was a student from the University of Northern Iowa who wanted to get pictures of all the candidates with his Mr. Potato head (yes, the toy) every candidate complied except Joe Biden and Sam Brownback; oddly enough both candidates have now dropped out of the presidential race. |

i would love for her to be a decent candidate, because i want to vote for a woman. but voting for a woman doesnt supercede voting for someone i trust and believe in. i dont beleive hilary is looking out for me. i believe obama is.

| Obama could insulate himself from such attacks by getting Jewish support. That's what Kieth Ellison did in Minnesota to become the first Muslim to be elected to congress. |

| | | Keith Ellison's faith was not that huge of a deal within his district. It really just wasn't. His district had been DFL since 1963 or something. He had Minneapolis and people really liked him. I feel like people outside of Minneapolis and Minnesota in general made a way bigger deal about his faith than he did. Even though Sabo failed to endorse him, with the districts STRONG DFL leanings, his election wasn't really questioned. Tammy Lee could get really shrill and annoying sometimes.
He got lucky in a way that analysts didn't expect, I think, in that so much of the special interest group funding went to smearing Patty Wetterling to get Michele Bachmann elected. They didn't really have that much time to focus on his faith because they were too busy avoiding any real analysis of Michele Bachmann's. |

Pat Buchanan got like <0.5% of the vote in 2000. I'd like to think no Democrats would stay at home over it, but the downside is they've already got the black vote cornered (in 2000 the african american vote was spilt 91/9% in favour of them, and it's not like Gore had much specific appeal) and if they're going to capitalise on Obama they're going to have to get NEW voters out in swing states.
I think the complexities of the US electoral system & voter registration make it pretty hard for an 'anti' vote turn-out. Look at the 2004 election, the widespread hatred for Bush and it still didn't materialise into the critical votes. I think Hilary could have that in her favour if she got through.

The only good to come of it is his fall from favour, which in turn has meant the Democrats have retaken the congress but won't matter in the long run as the next Republican candidate will just distance themselves from him.

Change for change's sake isn't such a good idea, especially when you're in the middle of a war; I'm wondering if people actually wanted Bush to stay in just to make sure he finished what he started, rather than bring in a new government who'd just whine about how it wasn't their fault.

This is personal experience, perhaps the wider studies or statistics will prove me wrong, but women actually feel guilty for not wanting to vote for Hillary. They want a woman president, but not the option we have now. I personally feel almost like a traitor for supporting a man instead of a woman, to the point where I wonder if I am biased by society's rules. This is particularly at the forefront of my mind because my family accused me of being anti-feminist for preferring the male candidate.
