| | | Sicko: O_o Review I found it to be much less about how wonderful socialism was than rather how fucked up the buying off of congress is.
Regardless of Michael Moore's views, this move is FUCKING AMAZING as a documentary on how ridiculous the american government has become via the lobby groups.
It pains me to say this.. but Michael Moore just made a movie both idealist conservative and liberals can agree on. Government is bought and paid for..
If you haven't seen this yet... see it.
He can go ahead and kill himself for his other movies.. but as a conservative; I'm backing this one...
This movie is not about socialism as a solution.. just showing the clusterfuck of the insurance "industry" and how badly it fucks people: at least, that was my focal point.
EVERYONE WATCH THIS MOVIE.
"or maybe if my husband was white" -- could have editted out that race baiting bs exploit of a widow's torment.. my only complaint.

I'm no expert, but my understanding is that the care you get is lousy. Once when I had a bad flu and my regular doctor was away, I went to a clinic near my home. Because I'd never been there before and didn't know what to do (and I had a fever of over 100), I just sat and waited with all the people who were sitting and waiting when I walked in. Whenever I made it to the head of the line, the person behind the desk looked at my card and said "Oh, you have private insurance, you don't need to wait down here," and I was whisked upstairs to a nicer waiting room, no doubt getting examined and sent on my way while the people downstairs continued to wait.
Medicaid isn't automatic for people under a certain income level, so not everyone who needs it has it. A couple of months ago I wrote a proposal for funding to pay out-of-pocket for mental health evaluations of birth parents in our foster care program. Foster children are automatically enrolled in Medicaid, but the birth parents are not, although pretty much none of them have private insurance. It takes months to get a government order for the evaulation. So the caseworkers usually have to come up with a 'permanency plan,' when they don't have any real idea whether the birth parent is mentally ill or not. Being able to pay cash would also apparently significantly widen the provider pool and shorten the waiting time, because not all places take medicaid.

| | | wow that's really interesting. ^^^ wildwoman..i enjoy reading your posts.
Yeah how come Medicaid is so mysterious and maybe the gov doesn't want people to know about it and actually use it or apply for it ..keep the poor in the dark..
Why can't they just improve Medicaid? ohh..wow how sad poor people have no voice in this "democracy." can the gov make that more apparent? |

| | the health care system in Canada is starting to go down the toilet, but it's still not nearly as bad as it is in the US. I mean, a poor person can still get reasonable care here (for how long though, that's a guess) |

And I think there's like state health insurance that differs from state to state but they throw you off of it the second you turn 18. Like me. And it's also not as good as it could be and doesn't cover that much. |
