| The Green Movement, Will Hollywood Destroy It? I realize that if not for Hollywood, the movement would not be where it is. And I'm so happy that they got the message out there.
But, I'm afraid that their own egos will sink the movement.
My 3 examples being:
Leo DeCaprio on the cover of the 'Green Issue' of Vanity Fair. The cover photo was shot in Iceland. The polar bear cub was inserted digitally. How much jet fuel was used to fly him, his entourage, and the photo crew there? Not to memtion the gas used to take them to a remote glacier. If they could insert the polar bear cub, they could have done the same for Leo. Wouldn't that have been more 'green'?
Laurie David, the biggest activist in Hollywood, on Real Time with Bill Mahr. She was complaining that when she asked a group of college students, only three of them owned hybrid cars. Ok, hybrids average at $30,000. And they are so new that they are barely on the used car market (not to mention massive dealer markups because of the high demand). How many people here can afford a $30K car? Especially those in school? Not everyone has 'Seinfeld' money.
Sheryl Crow, the toilet paper quote. Do we even need to go into the stupidity of that comment? Ok I do, one square? Well see how much TP I use when I contract Ecoli from the filthy hygene of using one square.
It's so great that people are finally taking global warming and the enviroment seriously, but those who got the message out there with their fame are at risk of killing it's credibility with their lack of a grip on reality. |
