Lawyer: Woman Thought She Was Constipated, Not Pregnant - News Story - WNBC | New York

NEW YORK -- A 25-year-old woman arrested in the death of her newborn daughter didn't know she was pregnant.

Defense lawyer Thomas Cascione says Laura Sergio of Brooklyn thought she was constipated at the time. He says her parents she was pregnant and gave her prune juice and a laxative for the constipation.

Sergio and two of her sisters were arrested in the death of the baby on Saturday after it was found dead in a garbage bag. Sergio was charged with murder.

Medical examiners later determined the infant had been carried to full term and born alive, said Ellen Borakove, a spokeswoman for the city medical examiner's office. The baby died of asphyxiation and hypothermia, she said.

They should have that system like in Berlin, you can put unwanted babies annon. through this door and it'll go down this chute into an incubator an an alarm will go off and the baby will be looked after, no questions asked. I only heard of it when a drunk man tried to crawl into one of these chutes.....I think its genius, could prevent unwanted baby murders.
