There is a real-estate collapse in Detroit. This is due to a mass number of individuals being laid off from the automakers, which are the #1 employers (generally) in that state. These individuals cannot find employment paying the same wages (or employment at all), so they seek lower paying jobs, many times below their skill set, and they seek government unemployment compensation. These people can no longer afford their homes, they are forced to attempt to sell, and since many are in the same position all across the state, there are no buyers....only a glut of sellers......This is driving prices down (as there is mass supply, and roughly nill demand), and is forcing many home owners into foreclosure. This is massively eroding housing values throughout the entire state.
