No one cares | It's not that nobody cares at all, it's just that the UK isn't going in there with guns blazing. The whole diplomacy thing is being explored first and clearly that fails to capture the public's imagination like a good, healthy war does. I was surprised that this thread hasn't had much action with replies, but then not so surprised after giving it some thought.
I'm sure it'd be different if Iran was holding 15 cute baby polar bears hostage, hah.  (if herekitty sees that, she's gonna kick my ass)

In fact there was a gunter grass book I read a long time ago that had this theme in it. I can't remember the name, but in it this kid set a dog (I think it was a poodle?) on fire in front of some fancy restaurant to get people's attention for his war protest. He didn't feel that people cared about what was happening to other people but they would respond to the suffering of a dog. (this is a gross over generalization and working from a shoddy memory too). Sometimes animals do get more attention & sympathy than people do, but I think the extra abuse they take in general evens it out.
