the secret about food in this country..

Ok don't ask me how I know this, but
a lot of food is literaly thrown
away every single day.

Basically people, i.e. the homeless don't have to go hungry in this
country.

it's a travesty.

end of postage.

yeah, i heard about this.

i actually know someone who's super concerned about this issue and actually chooses to dumpster dive for his food because of this. lots of supermarkets/bakeries/etc throw out food after a day or so (i think??), like if fruits and vegetables are slightly bruised, even though they may be perfectly safe to eat.

edit: something else i found while wikipedia surfing, which is related to this:
Food Not Bombs - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

^ i used to have roommates who did this often. and the FnB here has some damn good cooks.

i personally don't dumpster for food, but i sure take advantage of dumpstering items such as furniture and clothing that isn't ruined! i found one of my favorite coats in a thrift store dumpster once

having worked in food industry for 7 or so years i will say it's rediculous how much gets thrown out. oftentimes the stuff they get rid of isn't even bad! and then you think of parts of the world where food in such masses is unheard of and the conditions of people there. it gets depressing.

I did food not bombs for a couple of years and it really is sickening how much food is thrown away. Whole foods always gave us about 2 trashbags full of bagels and pastries they were going to throw away. Much more than we could give away in a day to people in the park so we always ended up taking the leftovers to one of 2 shelters. (There are more than that, we just only worked with those 2).

What's really gross is that I had a friend that worked at kroger and it was company policy to lock their dumpsters so that hungry people couldnt get into it.

There are two regions in the world with an enormous food surplus: Europe and North America (and Canada).

They can literally end world hunger. They posses an incredibly powerful weapon.
