| | | Anyone watch The Interview? Too many fucking adverts, but I stuck with it. One of them ("Toddy") is SUCH a macho, redneck bogan! 'roo shooting ... Utes ... Cars ... His little boy is five years old and he kept going on about his "promising football career" and how this kid plays for a local team. At five years old? Personally I think five year olds being made to play a game like AFL are victims of child abuse, just like in Tom Brown's School Days, where 19th Century schoolboys are brutalized with sports and "muscular Christianity".
And it amazed me how frightened "Toddy" was that anybody might think he and the other guy may have gotten it on together - I couldn't believe how many times he made awkward homophobic jokes, and was so desperate to assert his heterosexuality. It was genuinely sad to see a man so paralyzed by machismo that he after all he went through, his greatest fear truly seemed to have been, 'What if everybody thinks I'm gay?'
The other guy was less macho and (and more likeable) by comparison. I got the impression that not being such a super macho, super manly, "typical Aussie bloke" made him more emotionally healthy ("stronger") than the other one. He wasn't as fucked up with some irrational fear that the accident called his masculinity into question.
But "Toddy" IS Mainstream Austrayia. |

Memories of university "history of sport" course! And everything else you said was true, by the way! I watched most of the interview. I liked them better as concepts than as people. But it's nice that they lived. |

But under the circumstances, it actually made me feel sorry for him. I mean, it must have been physical and psychological torture to be trapped like that for two weeks. It's scarcely conceivable that two openly gay midgets would have had sex under such circumstances. Yet the fear that people might suspect otherwise really came through. I'm sure it's not a delusional fear, but everything to do with the kind of people they've been around their whole lives.
Did you see the bit where "Toddy" said something like, "One of the worst parts of all was that Grant was so ecstatic when we first saw the lights from the rescue team, I thought he'd kiss me" and the other one laughed and blurted, "Nah, I was so over the moon I DID kiss you!"
Toddy's expression was priceless. Half murderous, half mortified. It was actually quite sad. |

Hell, they probably should have had forensics check the cage for evidence of semen. I know it's a cliche, but actually the only rabidly homophobic guy I have ever known did turn out to be gay in the end. |

| | | I hate those guys.
1. They were sexist and homophobic.
2. They seem to have been a bit to exhalted considering their workmate died (probably thinking about the cash)
3. They absolved the mine of responsibility!
What was the quote? something like "even if you work in a supermarket there is still a risk"
Not likely, cunce.
What a pack of sellout bogans. |

| | | While I feel for these guys and would hate to be put in that position I just hated the way the media went nuts over it. It was just so saturated. I'm also with mscobina those guys were very disrespectful to the Larry Knight, the guy who died because of it. It seems like they really didn't care about him at all. |

you have to expect that they are from redneckville though, northern tassie is redneck wonderland.
i dont' begrudge them the money at all, most of it will be taxed anyway and they deserve to be compensated for what happened. |

| | Well i fucken begrudge them.
They absolved the company, and (paraphrasing) said that even supermarket workers risk death each day - the inference being that all business should be absolved of responsibility for workplace deaths. |
