I've never even heard of this, but I guess there's no reason I should have, since it apparently started when I was in high school and I don't have kids. I do remember my library having little contests about how many books you read over the summer and so forth. I can't remember any of the prizes. I was always going to read that many books anyway, so it was kind of like getting praised for breathing.

I totally forgot about Book It! It's sad that they aren't doing it anymore.

I don't see eliminating any program that gets kids to read. And if I remember correctly, it was set up so that you could only get one free pizza a month. I doubt anyone has a weight problem because of it.
