70-year-old Hampton Bays resident Vincenzo Ricardo was found dead in his home, apparently from natural causes. Police found him after someone reported a broken water pipe at his residence. His body was sitting in front of a TV, still on.
Morgue assistant Jeff Bacchus said "You could see his face. He still had hair on his head," adding that his body was preserved from the low humidity in his house.
Not having any contact with anyone since December 2005, authorities had no answer as to why his power was still on. When asked, the neighbors just assumed he was in a long-term facility or a hospital; he suffered from blindness and diabetes.

That'll be me at 70.

Sheesh, well that's nothing. In Finland few years ago they found a guy who's been dead for 9 fucking years in his flat. He would have stayed there for another 9 years if it wasn't for the fire breaking out in his building. The sad thing is that he had a son and a daughter (including grand kids) who couldn't be bothered to check up on him for 9 FUCKING YEARS.

HAMPTON BAYS, N.Y. - The partially mummified body of a man dead for more than a year has been found in a chair in front of his television, which was still on, authorities said.

Vincenzo Ricardo, 70, apparently died of natural causes, said Dr. Stuart Dawson, Suffolk County’s deputy chief medical examiner.

Police found Ricardo’s body this week when they investigated a report of burst pipes.

The home’s dry air had preserved his features, morgue assistant Jeff Bacchus said.

“You could see his face. He still had hair on his head,” Bacchus said.

Ricardo’s wife died years ago, and he lived alone, Dawson said.

“He hasn’t been heard from in over a year. That’s the part that baffles me,” he said. “Nobody sounded the alarm.”

Neighbors said they had thought Ricardo was in a hospital or nursing home.

“We never thought to check on him,” said neighbor Diane Devon.
