wow, I'm kind of speechless. Do the liberal spoof shows come off that bad to Republicans? I've never seen something as mean spirited as that on Weekend Update or The Daily Show. That was simply a smear campaign thinly veiled as satire.
Nice laugh track |

| | | i always knew fox news was a republican fest and rupert murdoch sucks republic cock, but i turned it on the other night and they had a 'fair and balanced' panel discussing obama.....comprised of three republicans and zero democrats. It was like watching a republic informerical, they always seemed to deny their bias but now they seem unashamed by it???
can an american please explain. |

| | | Meh, The Daily Show more or less ripped off The Day Today and took all the funny out and basically just kept the set. |

| | | it's asking a bit much of america to embrace the day today. fox news rips it off more anyway. but with absolutely NO irony. ITV over here's going that way too, has been for a long time. |

I wouldn't compare them, but I think of them both as lefty and funny...

can an american please explain. | Everyone knows they're biased? I don't know how to explain it other than that. I don't watch, but just from life in general, it's fairly common to deny any bias and then go right ahead and show it. Nobody who doesn't agree with everything they say thinks Fox News isn't biased, and probably even some of the people who do agree would admit it.

I guess it's just that, because of the similar set, I can imagine The Daily Show being a severely watered-down version of The Day Today, like someone had pitched it and they'd been like "Yeah, that's great. But you have to have a laughter track on it so people don't accidentally turn it onn halfway through and think it's the real news, and you can't make any of the stories up because otherwise we might get in twubble."
But all that aside I still don't find The Daily Show that funny. It's obviously a step in the right direction culturally, but it still needs work. |

| | | Are the sets generally similar, or practically-identical similar? Because The Daily Show set is essentially just a talk show set.

What exactly are you talking about here? The Daily Show or The Day Today? I'm not familar with the latter. Your description clearly does not describe The Daily Show, but if it describes The Day Today then your claim that TDS is a watered-down version of TDT doesn't make much sense. |

| | | tds is not much like tdt at all as tds has lots of political/current affairs satire, whereas tdt didn't

I didn't watch this clip the first time this thread was posted, but I did watch it yesterday and I agree that it's really bad. However, there were a couple of things at the end that were kind of clever. I'm easily amused sometimes like that. Examples: Barack Obama magazine = B.O. magazine. I also enjoyed the "don't tell mama I voted for Obama" t-shirt. Don't worry, I'm not so desperate for laughs that I'd actually watch the show if it hasn't been cancelled, I'm just saying. | |
