Why Reagan Youth Are Still Important

Subject: why Reagan Youth are still important
longshotlovePost: 1

heartbreak:
In the United States young kids who adopt anarchism do sobecause they system and the general frame of mind is one encouraging of tyranny,

racist, fascist and blankly, banally closed minded.

in the 1980s this was utterly apparent with

the rise of Ronald W. Reagan -- and the mentality that followed in those repressive years was not really 'hip' or 'cool' -- and the memory of Hippies and Beats was a lot fresher in people's minds.

So Reagan Youth appeared...and gradually were ground down by the State that they obviously didn't have a lot of success in smashing.

Why were they called 'Reagan Youth'? perhaps it's a reference to what economist Marx called 'Internalization of the state' -- when the Government is there in your bedroom, at your dinner table -- meaning you don't need police enforcing laws because you have become in microcosm that which dictates that it has the right to determine hwo you'll get by.

perhaps 'Reagan Youth' was chosen as a name because they simply saw a lot of people staring at Reagan and seeing him as a 'Real Nice guy'.

and then perhaps later they decided to join 'em when they couldn't lick 'em. It's a scary story and very very sad...

I obviously don't mean JUST the band. But the story's worth retelling...uglier than anything that ever happened to Kurt Cobain or Courtney Love, down to the bitter, stupid ugly end.

If You're Dumb Enough To Think This Is "khule"...

It's already too late.

"Formed while Dave and Paul were still in Forest Hills high school, they quickly gained a good reputation and were soon playing the punk clubs of Manhattan. Paul's physics teacher (Jack DePalma) became a roadie for the group. After graduation and the release of their first album, they began touring nationally and were regulars at the Sunday-afternoon hardcore matinee shows at CBGBs.

"By the late 1980s the extensive touring had taken its toll on the group, both physically and emotionally. Despite the many shows played and the relatively large album sales (for a hardcore punk band), the members of the band continually found themselves broke. When Reagan left office, the band split up.

"By this point Dave had become a heroin user and occasional dealer. In a conflict with another dealer, he was severely beaten with a baseball bat, requiring weeks of hospitalization. In 1993 he began seeing a girl, Tiffany B., who supported both their drug habits by prostitution.

"Later that year his mother was killed in a car accident. Soon after, Dave and his girlfriend were on Houston Street looking for customers and drugs. A familiar customer in a truck hired Tiffany and the two of them disappeared. A few days later, police on Long Island stopped the same truck and discovered Tiffany's body in the back. The driver was Joel Rifkin, later convicted as a serial killer responsible for the murder of several prostitutes. Despondent over his continuing drug addiction and the loss of his mother and girlfriend, Dave Rubinstein committed suicide in 1993.
A version of their song "Degenerated" was used as the theme song for "The Lone Rangers," the fictional heavy metal band portrayed in the 1994 comedy Airheads."
