amen. money is not rewarded untila civil suit. and a civil suit cannot be filed until after a criminal suit (well, in rare cir***stances it can, but it usually works in that order). so imagine you're a rape victim. what possible motive do you have to put yourself out there in open court, in front of alleged perpetrators, and deal with a case that can last for years. your motive is justice. because someone took something from you that can never be replaced. civil suits are rare and the money rewarded is even more rare. many victims file a civil suit simply for closure. let's face it, criminals don't have money. so it doesn't make sense that rape victims sue for money. it ends up costing them time, emotional energy, friends, family, strenght, jobs, a sense of self, jobs, trust, a sense of safety, belief in fellow human beings.
if you haven't, sit in on a rape trial one day. watch as a woman or man's entire dignity is destroyed. again. pictures of their genitals are passed around to the jury. questions about their sexual history are asked. they are forced to recount and recall every second of the rape and explain it in detailed terms. it's not pretty. and it's not for money.
wildwomyn~ much love. good to see you. happy holidays.
