I'm American and I don't understand it either. In '04 it was clear, to me at least, that Bush's war in Iraq was ill-advised, and poorly planned. Yet, he won.
John Kerry was partly responsible for Bush's victory. Kerry did what Democrats usually do when they are attacked by Republican smear campaigns. HE DID NOTHING.

A lot of people say they don't like negative political ads, but they work.

I figure they should run Condy and Hillary head-to-head. Possibly in a big oily pit. Girl on girl, hooky vs blackist.

I dunno, it'd be good to have Condy in just so you could get the first blac and first female president thing out of the way and concentrate full-time on making sure whoever's in power is actually competent.

To add to your list of women in power, (apologies for spelling here) Benazir Abuto (Pakistan) and Diah Permata Megawati Setiawati Soekarnoputri (Indonesia) have both been key female political figures in the last ten years or so, and the latter was definitely what 1066 And All That would consider A Good Thing.

And on an unrelated matter, I never realised how old Hillary was. She looks so good for her age.

Actually, neither of them are still in power, so I guess it doesn't matter. Megawati's more a personal cause for me, as I don't think she got the recognition she deserved.

Helen Clark is a bit of a cunt, but she certainly gets the job done and takes no nonsense, and somebody has to. She's like a (vaguely) left-wing Thatcher, at times. Mother Of The Nation (the nation being New Zealand).
