We do that all the time! We leave a pad of red stickers in the lobby with instructions for you to put the sticky on the lip of your box if ya dont want admail. Then we don't bring you any.

Was this in the US? Maybe they have a different policy.

UK. The guy was going to get fired, then ended up staying with the company but not doing rounds. It sucks that they were so blatant about saying "We rely on junkmail to operate. It's an important source of income." Privatisation completely ****s even the slightest possibility of decent service.

I agree. Our system is semi-privatized, and yes, we do rely on admail to bring in lots of our profits, but management also has to deal with angry customers... So it's in their interest to back off when we provide customers with the option.

Plus, when letter carriers know that the people we're delivering the flyers to actually WANT them, it makes it easier on us. When you have 1000 houses on your route and 973 of them just leave the junkmail on their porch in the rain until it disintegrates, hauling those 1000 pieces around every day quicky becomes disheartening.

We also have a whale of a union over here, so we're protected from lots of things management would like to be able to hold over our heads. In fact, unless you're caught throwing away mail or you threaten your supervisor, it's fairly difficult to be fired.

When did the UK privatize their system?

About 10 years ago, I think. And there's recently been an undercover do***entary about our postal service, and it's a mess. I mean, there's always been "lost in the post", but when you put a figure of around 25% on it, that's just bad.

I kinda wonder how well junkmail adverts work, the same way as I don't get why anyone would buy sites just to sell the advertising space. I guess some people must be taken in, but god knows how or why. But the thing with the postman I referred to was that he was actually only advertising a service that the Post Office runs. It seemed pretty lame to me; if they can't afford for any significant number of people to use that service, why run it at all?
