liver & skin

Is it true that you get bad skin when your liver doesn't work properly?

yes. if your liver is clogged-up, your body will begin using the skin(the body's largest organ(yes, it is an organ) to start eliminating toxins. in laymen's terms: basically, you're skins's trying to do the job of the liver and colon and when you're seeing acne on your face, it's like you face is pooping the crap that your liver won't metabolize properly...when you're liver isn't metaolizing properly neither is the rest of your lower GI junk. (i'm just giving you laymans speak...actually, it's much more involved). but, going back to you question: yes, a clogged-up, fatty liver can manifest itself onto the skin causing bumps, acne, you name it. i suggest you do some research on cleansing the liver. good luck. and, for heaven's sake...DON'T take Accutane. that's like heaping gasoline on an already out-of-control fire.

When i had a really bad virus and my liver went a bit awry, my skin started turning yellow, but thats a severe case of it If it's just overworked by bad eating habits, too much sugar, fats, alcohol then it definitely starts looking dull and generally slightly yellowy around your mouth and whites of your eyes. I wouldnt say your liver underworking is the cause of bad spots or other skin conditions like acne though.

Theoretically it could, but it's much more likely that any acne is caused my factors other than liver failure. I've heard of people drinking vinegar and lemon juice to do "liver flushes" to cleanse their skin, but if you have a decent diet and drink lots of water and not too much alcohol, your liver won't have any problems.

I wonder if this is why after having an infection, my mother keeps saying "Your skin doesn't look right."

She keeps trying to blame it on my vegan diet, and swears that because of it I'm not getting any iron, even though she has no idea what I eat on a daily basis.
