Is it bad to take Midol when you dont have your period?

I am on the depo shot so I haven't gotten my period in quite a while, but I still take Midol on a regular basis (almost daily).
Is this unhealthy?

Considering thats 2 tablets of Acetaminophen, yeah

Acetaminophen is not good for your liver if you take it daily.

Is that the only thing about it that would be unhealthy?
I didn't really look at the active ingredients.

Why exactly do you take it so often?
I admit, sometimes, when I'm super bloated, I'll take it b/c of the mild diuretic it contains. I imagine that if you take it everyday, once you stopped, you could get that rebound-edema... though, I don't know if the diuretic is even strong enough for that.
I feel like I'm talking out of my ass here, so I'll stop.

Yes. And (laughs) that's the first thing you should do, twit. You'd probably be alright, but asking questions about what could be bad for you on a message board with Rx's is not the best idea. Ask a doctor or pharmacist.

are you experiencing pain every day?

there's nothing in midol really that's specific for period pain other than a very very mild diuretic. it's just Acetaminophen, a weak painkiller. you can take that for headaches, toothache, anything.

however it's bad to take every day as it may cause liver damage over time. it's one of the more dangerous painkillers even though it's not at all strong

if you're not in pain, you shouldn't be taking it, and if you're in pain every day then you need diagnosing with something and taking a more suitable drug for long term use. and if you plan on taking weak painkillers for no reason then maybe switch to aspirin as half an asprin a day might help your heart

Honestly, part of the reason I take it is for the caffeine that's in it. It's a lower dose than just plain caffeine pills. It doesn't do all that much as far as bloating (for me anyway). I suppose I could just take ibuprofen like I always used to, but for some reason I don't think it works as well.

taking ibuprofen for long periods of time can cause stomach ulcers. i got one myself from taking that and diclofenac for a long time. these aren't rx drugs but they can cause bigger problems than ones which are...

why don't you just drink red bull or cola or something if you want caffeine? it's not anywhere near as bad for you

i don't see why you need these medicines. they're not even particularly effective as painkillers and they don't give any other effects

Well I don't suppose I do need them. That wasn't really the question, honestly.
I don't need them, I'm just wondering, if I keep taking them will it harm me?
I'm very sorry I made this thread now as it's been a lot more hassle than it was worth.

It is an "Rx," an "Rx" isn't a script, it's a symbol for medicine & drugs, get with the program Ram.

And regarding your rep, you are a twit if you don't check the active ingredients.

Plus c'mon, is that the best you can really think of?

You're not even worth the time.

BTW, I was just trying to help you in the 1st place.

Rx means prescription, end of.
I worked in a pharmacy for more than 8 years, do you really believe I am that dense?
You are ridiculous. I used to appreciate your posts but goodness, you are too much trouble to be worth it.

Rx = Drugs, period, not just scripts. I am believing you are dense now but need not go any further into it.

Well maybe you didn't recieve comprehensive training. Regardless, I don't care who likes my posts here (no matter what they are about), I don't post for acceptance. I enjoy the uniqueness of this board, and it offers an excellent way to waste time.

RumpusP will become famous soon enough RumpusP will become famous soon enough
two part answer:

1) if you're in it primarily for the caffeine, just have a cup of tea or coffee or such. contains more (yet still a small amount) of caffeine without the extra unnecessary medicines. in fact, most common of caffeine pills only contain the equivalent of a cup of coffee's worth of it... so if you feel that's too much you can simply cut the pill in half or drink have a cup of coffee.

a good question, though, instead is 'why do you feel the nedd for a daily stimulant?'.

2) Rx does indeed refer to *all* medications. it is the short script form of "recieve" (used both in medication and communications traffic) and is thus used in the medical profession for prescriptions due to their being recieved through that system.

a "prescription", however, is not ony a restricted-access medication (or amount of a medication), but any medication that is prescribed by a medical professional. this includes restricted and unrestricted drugs (levels of or complete); both are possible and often prescribed (hence, recieved or Rx from) by a doctor, nurse-prac, pharmacist, etc. whether available OTC or not. the word "prescription" being used only for restricted, non-OTC meds/med-amounts is a case of verbal-shorthand.

Well it's about $6 every 12 days. So cheaper than cigarettes I suppose.
