I got my nose pierced yesterday for the 4th time haha cos it's always gone funny before

But, before you say I'm an idiot who should accept I can't have my nose pierced, the 3 previous times, I had it done with a gun - I didn't know this is a bad idea.

So yesterday I had it done with a needle in a proper piercing place (the place that pierced my lip and gave me no probs) and on the info leaflet there's some stuff about when a piercing is rejected, but I don't understand what it's on about. It says the "piercing will rise to the skin".

The nose stud isn't sitting perfectly flat against my nose...and it's still red and sore. After 24 hours, is this just a normal reaction or should I just cut my losses and take it out? Anyone know anything about this? Thanks very much

with the "rising to the skin" bit, they're talking about the typical piercing rejection - say if you have your nipple pierced and the jewelry starts working its way up through your skin, it's rejecting. what's happening is that your body is trying to push the offending jewelry out.

however, with a nose piercing, i'm not sure what the signs for rejection - but since you had it done only 24 hours ago, the swelling and soreness is normal.

red and sore at this time is quite normal for a nostril (i'm assuming here, since you just said nose) piercing. it isn't uncommon for them to be unhappy for 2-3 weeks, sometimes longer. hopefully you'll have an easy time of it, but don't be shocked if it does stretch on.

so long as the discharge is clear, whitish or slightly light yellow and it's only minor swelling and redness then it's normal.

if the swelling becomes severe, it becomes hot to the touch (some warmth is normal due to healing), and/or the discharge changes to a thick yellow or green color then you've an infection started.

if rejecting, it will be similar to an infection and the piercing will possibly migrate some on you. your body will try to push it out the nearest exit spot, for the nostril that would be the front of the nostril where the opening to your nose is.

most likely and by the sounds, you're fine and normal.
