Cat Scans

Has anyone had a CT done; where on the body and how much?

I need to get one done on my chest and abdomen/pelvic region.

My doctor wants me to get a follow up CT scan. Last year I was diagnosed with kidney cancer. I had my right kidney removed. I didn't require further treatment. I saw my doctor last month. He thinks I'm doing fine but he still wants me to get a CT scan to make sure. My health insurance will not pay for it. It will cost me about $4,500 for a high contrast scan of my chest and lower abdomen. The hospital said they would discount the price by 30% if insurance is a problem. That's still too expensive.

Standard chemo is normally not used with Kidney cancer. Its not effective. If my cancer spread I would have to be on Interferon or Interleukin-2 treatments.
Recently two new drugs have recieved FDA approval to be used to treat advanced kidney cancer. But they're expensive one of them will cost $4,000 a month!!!

have you considered approaching a benefit foundation to see if they could help with funding the scan?

how many times have you appealed the decision by your insurance company? it works to use the appeals process. it isnt user friendly, but it is worth it.
