| I get that problem too. I even have it set to lock when I close the door, but then I freak out over whether I closed the door when I go out. Normally I just have to trust myself and go on without going back to check, and it always turns out that I closed it.
When I first moved into my place, I used to sometimes come in and leave the keys in the lock of the front door. One of my neighbours rung my doorbell to tell me one time. I always manage to bring them inside with me now, but end up having to get out of bed at night to check I haven't left them in the door.
It could be a symptom of OCD, but unless you've got other obsessive routines and anxieties, chances are it's just normal. I wouldn't freak out about those things I mentioned if I hadn't gotten it wrong at least once. Screwing up now and then is just human, and it's easy to start second-guessing yourself when you get it wrong once. But also remember that when you get something wrong, it makes you more likely to remember get it right in future. The trouble is, you're just not conscious of the fact that you remember because you do these things on auto-pilot. |
