Eating Disorder

Could someone who's managed to kick an eating disorder please give me some encouraging words...

I suffered from bulimia but have been well for two years. I never told anyone about it. I didn't understand that I had been ill until my five years in hell were over.

For two years I have had no symptoms what so ever. My weight is normail and I can control my eating.

Now I seem to be getting back into old patterns. For two weeks I've been eating loads of food in the evenings. Reasons: New boyfriend, not sure where I'm going to live in two months, my two best friends are moving to Australia, the results for uni entrance exams will be official in one week. I'm under a lot of stress and I don't seem to have anything reasonable to do in the evenings, so I EAT.

Please try and stay strong, your'e obviously crying out for help at a time when a lot of things are changing for you and you feel out of control. Try to remember that you are in charge of your eating habits not the other way around so try your very best to take your mind off the ritual of binge eating. Go out with friends instead, or call friends, watch TV, read a magazine, exercise, post on kittyradio, apply a face mask...anything to avoid going into the kitchen. Bulimia is a horrible horrible habit, which really destroys the body, you probably don't need to be reminded of that as you seem like an intelligent person.
If anything eating too little is better than bingeing and purging which does nothing but destroy your body. It doesn't even help you lose weight as your body absorbs most of the calories through digestion in the mouth anyway.
You've overcome it before and you can do it again, just take it one day at a time and before you know it you'll be back on track. Take care and look after yourself.

If you start bingeing again you will eventually start purging. When you have nothing better to do in the evenings, find some other way to get yourself out of the kitchen and relieve stress. Do yoga DVDs, go to a gym or for a walk/run, go to a cafe or coffeeshop and write or just sit and sip a drink (one drink, and maybe one little pastry, is quite different from everything you can find in your kitchen), hang out with friends or a new boyfriend, go window shopping (or shopping), anything you enjoy that keeps you busy.
