I have tended to be a little cynical too about seeking that sort of help but if your state of mind is at the point of getting in the way of your everyday life then it's time to think about doing what you can to sort it.

It might be an idea to see your GP in order to get a referral for a counsellor from MIND. Maybe meds would help but speaking to a counsellor as well might help get to the root of why you're feeling the way you do.

I think if something is messing with your day to day life (like you not going into to work) then it really couldn't hurt to go speak to a counselor or doctor. The worst that could come of it is that you decide it's not for you and look for some other way to get better. I used to wake up feeling that way all the time and it really ****ed things up for me.

It sucks big time when your brain plays these kinds of tricks on you, but I hope some morning soon that you wake up feeling fantastic and happy.

I'm going to say what everyone else is saying ... you should look into finding a counselor. Being mopey is one thing but it sounds like this unhappiness is affecting aspects of your life such as work and self care (sleep in this case).

Def shop around for a counselor. It's a bit of a pain (I mean they should ALL be helpful right!?!) but looking for a good fit is the key difference between finding it a load of **** and actually finding it helpful. At least from my experience.

This is not normal at all.

Every person I've ever met who has had some sort of very traumatic experience in their life has done this. One of my girlfriends who was in an abusive relationship, another friend who lost her mother in a car accident, divorce...etc.

You should try to sleep at least 8 hrs each night because lack of sleep is very bad for you and you should definitely get out in the sunlight as much as possible and go and may get psychotherapy and some short term antidepressant medication. Also exercise and meditation definitely help with depression because they force your mind to focus on a task rather than a feeling.

and if all else fails think of this..
