i was in the hospital recently for the same thing.

i find yoga is really helpful. hatha yoga to be specific. i don't know about all the others.

also i do something called "alternate nostril breathing". i know it sounds crazy but it seems to work.

there's also this **** & i find it helps, as well:

i guess donuts are out.

b complex
folic acid
vitamin d
magnesium citrate (any Mg but i think this one is most easily utilized)
fish oil (at least 1000 mg epa)

don't let someone tell you flax is just as good. the body has to go through multiple conversions to get what it needs from flax, and you just won't get what you need.

i've used all of this, along with calcium carbonate for depression/anxety, PMDD.

if you don't want to go the xanax route.

did you ever sort if you were adrenally insufficient? (thats a chicken/egg thing, yeah?)

last spring when i went on a road trip with my daughter i had a horrible anxiety attack on the freeway in st. louis. it felt like my arms were gonna stop working and i felt like i was going to loose control. and then it started happening randomly at times when i am driving on the freeway away from familiar areas. so i got hypnotised three times and then my therapist thought i was okay and released me. but it's happened a couple of times since then.

so i don't have any remedies, but i can say that in my experience at least hypnosis did not work. the therapist said that it is most effective in this sort of involuntary reaction type thing. as opposed to smoking or weight loss. but it did not work so well for me. it is really pretty frightening though. and i hate feeling like a scared person. i really hate that.

i'm on drugs for this but in the long run they aren't going to fix anything. it's a band aid, one i am grateful for, but a band aid nonetheless. i have found cognitive behavioural therapy to be helpful for my anxiety. i've been doing some with my therapist as treatment for manic depression and find it really useful. not feeding into my negative thoughts. focusing on the here and now.

for example, i am going to be late for work but telling myself at least i'm going. i can try to be on time tomorrow. instead of thinking i'm late for work why bother going in at all & stay in bed for three days hiding under the blankets.

it's not always going to work but it's helpful when you remember to calm down, take a step back & reconsider your options.
