Hey just wondering has anyone here ever attended bereavement counselling? I know I need to go but I would like to hear about other peoples experience of it.

SheilaJoyce is an unknown quantity at this point
Bereavement & counselling.

Greetings.......!
Well, I'm going to share with you, my experience with counsellors. Please remember a couple of things. First, that I'm 52 yrs old & I'm a born-again Christian believer. Second, my grief was from a sudden, unexpected death of my dear sweet hubby, of only 3 yrs, who I'd met 30 yrs prior, but lost track of, which is another story I'll share one day.
I had lost my Dad at age 16, then my Mom just a year prior to finding 'Gary'. I'm a only child & my closest dearest relative lives in Florida, in addition to being a barren women.
So, our family Doctor immediately requested 2 bereavement councellors to come to our home. The first was a very nice lady, about 10 yrs older than myself. She was what I would say, very well trained in the profession, and also a Christian. After her visit, she reported to the Doctor, that my faith would carry me through. But he wasn't satisfied with that, so a second lady visited.
Now, don't get me wrong, but, this counsellor should not have been in that business/trade. She was younger than I, but not much, however, she came in & first thing that happened was I discovered her terror of cats ! Now we have 2 Tabby's, which are like children to me, and are extremely sweet & very very gentle. But they like to always check anything new or different in our home out, right away !!! Then secondly, and near as quick as I discovered her fear of cats, I also discovered she was a non-believer/athiest. Now, that put myself in a difficult situation.
What I'm trying to tell you, is this, find out exactly who you're going to see prior to the visit. This grief & sorrow, has got to be the most difficult journey of my life, and I don't appreciate having to share with someone who has absolutely nothing in common with me. I'm not saying you need to find a counsellor who's also in morning, but if at all possible, someone who has similarity's to yourself, otherwise, its just a period of waste, which you certainly do not need !!
I hope that will help you somewhat.
Please feel free to contact myself, if you would like to talk or need further help/information.
Remember, you are a child of God !
And Jesus Christ gave His life for us all !!
He will never ever leave or forsake you !!! Never !!
God Bless & my prayers are with you !
/sjg

i went to cruse bereavement a couple of times last year, didnt do much for me as im not really a talker, and i found it a teeny bit patronising, but that's just me. it's probably easier after the first couple of times, it's a bit jarring to just talk to a stranger about things, but i will say my whole experience with the cruse people was very good, so definately consider them if they have counsellors in your area.
