Have you ever noticed how psychiatry and religion generally exist to help people "cope" with their problems rather than "deal" with them. They emphasize that the victims of crime should turn the other cheek and accept their fate and or take medications to deal with the emotional state that results from being a victim instead of bringing justice to the perpetrator of the crime. It encourages complete and utter abdication and passivity. It says "if you have been wronged by your husband, take lithium and cope until you feel better". Basically its all about promoting "the harmonious society" that the western world is so vociferously criticizing China for at this very moment. Psychiatry and Religion and Law exist to repress justice not uphold.

They hypocrisy of it all is breathtaking.

Everything I've said is true. A wife comes in upset because she is getting a divorce from her cheating husband, is her sadness caused by a biochemical imbalance..possibly? but does the fact that her husband is leaving her help elevate her mood?..no...does implicitly demanding that she "get over it" help her long term self esteem? does sitting on a couch merely listening to her problems for an hour and yawning make the husband less likely to betray her or anyone else in society?..no.

The Chinese government cracks down on its people's right to dissent against political policies while the American people crack down on their government and their neighbors right to disagree with how they conduct themselves as "civilized" (and I use that term loosely) individuals.

I'd say the Chinese government is better than most suburbanites. and certainly more moral than any priest or psychiatrist. The "other 98%" are like the blind man who always tells the tour guide he's a liar.
