| | | Quitting smoking today! Yeah, I went to New Leaf to quit. They have given me patches.
Strange thing is - there was a carbon monoxide (I think) tester to see how much crap is in your lungs. It gave a percentage readout. My mom was 24% and my niece was 26% whereas I was 61%....lol...
She said she's never seen such a high reading and am surprised I am not in hospital...I think she exaggerated a lil bit
Anyways - today I smoked in the morning before I got my patch and when I got my patch I have yet to smoke so I am doing well considering I am a chronic chain smoker of roughly 60 a day...Okies - - just thought I'd let you know so people can give some advice on quitting smoking...
Im worried about putting on weight - I only just lost the 3 stone I put on last time I quit....and that was due to heroin. I doubt I could lose that sort of weight again without becoming bulimic...

| | quitting smoking is the #1 thing you can do for your health
you may gain a few pounds, but then you'll lose it
no big deal is it? would you rather die a horrible long drawn out death or gain 10 lbs?
congrats and stay strong |

It's not abstaining from the act of smoking that throws you into physical withdrawal, it's the lack nicotine upsetting all the extra uptake receptors that have grown. So it's kind of like giving a pint of Jack to an alcoholic so they can quit drinking.
Have them or a doc put you on Chanitx. It's called Champix in your corner of the world.
It was developed by a researcher who quit smoking the hard way. |

| | | Yea, quitting is great for your health. You'll have whiter teeth, you won't smell like smoke, and you run less risk of diseases.
Plus, you'll be saving yourself some cash! |

| | that's great news silvine, you sound like you're really trying hard to get your life under control! i've now been quit for 3 months, and i feel great.
don't worry about putting on a bit of weight. in the long run, 5 pounds fades into insignificance.
good luck, and good work!

| | | workout how much money you were spending on cigarettes, and immediately put it towards something to benefit your health.
i.e. better food, a treadmill, gym membership.
and how the fuck do you even smoke 60 cigarettes a day? I'd get RSI from rolling that many durries. |

| | | Quiting smoking The addiction only lasts five days.. So after about five day's the cravings should slow down. Getting past the five day's also can be a emotional roller coaster. But five days is not hard.. I think the hard part is the habits formed by smoking. Coffee breaks and smoking after eating. Find someone who has quit smoking. give them a call before smoking that first cigarette.. If you never smoke the first one you will never smoke again. Put something else in your life to replace the cigarettes. I used some kind of breath savers or mints to put in my mouth during times the habit came on ..! You will get sick of them in time and quit time too. But in any type of habitual healing there must be some thing to replace it.. Something healthy.. I started running, Now not everyone can do that, or is that crazy. But find something the you are interested in to replace it. Something healthy.
Again get a friend for support..! You can do this..! |

| | You see - the family quit, well except my sister. My mother, niece, and myself all attended New Leaf on Friday and received our patches and inhalers. But, my mother is starting to faulter - today is her first day on the patch and inhaler and she said its not working and is thinking she will not be able to quit smoking
If she starts again I'll lose my support and will prolly start up again too. I really enjoy smoking, I can afford it, and since I dont drink alcohol it is the only pleasure I have But I guess I need to quit for my health - I was a fucking chain smoker - sometimes I'd be lighting up another cigarette with one half done in the ashtray...

| | | I'm telling you man, get on Champix. You'll smoke at first but after awhile you won't even really feel like it as it starts to work on the receptors that uptake the nicotine. You'll smoke the cig but won't get that instant spike/rush feeling after awhile.
You don't get the crazies because the receptors think everything is fine, just like you feel when you had finished a cig.
You're going through withdrawal and aware of it, but it feels like it's going on more behind the scenes and you don't really care. One day after taking the medicine for awhile, it'll just click and you won't smoke any cigs that day and then the next and so forth.
I was a nicotine fanatic. It can be done. |

I have yet to give up heroin or cigarettes but opiates definitely have a stronger withdrawal than nicotine. I used to be addicted to acid too - and cannabis. But after acid fucking my head up -- I would not touch marijuana for a while because of the paranoia. Youth makes drugs seem so much of an drama.
That said, heroin, at the right dose, takes all the pain away....
