Is anyone here autistic?

I'm just wondering really.

To me, it's patently obvious that my family is laced with a High Functioning Autism, probably Asperger's, but no-one seems to have ever said anything about it, or done anything about it, and most people seem to just think you're shy, quiet and depressed, a bit weird.
I think it came from my grandfather's side of the family. My mother is clearly ill, one of my sisters (but I dont think the other one is ) and myself all display alot of traits that would suggest AS.
I know that for people further along the spectrum it's more obvious, but I've spoken to people who have said that past a certain point people don't seem to think that there's anything wrong at all.
I was just wondering if anyone had any similar experiences. (or differing ones)

My guess is that a neurologist would have to make the diagnosis, although I might be wrong?

I've worked with children who have autism, but not Aspergers children as much. If I suspected I myself had Aspergers traits I would see a specialist of some sort, because some of the Aspergers symptoms can be easily confused with other issues (depression, anxiety, social phobias, etc.). Aspergers has a large range of functionality/symptoms, etc.

Here's a quiz: Aspie-quiz

By no means a diagnostic tool, but sort of interesting.

After I watched Flight Of The Living Dead last night I became autistic. It was so horrifying.

Aspie-quiz says -

Your Aspie score: 177 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 24 of 200
You are very likely an Aspie

I wasnt expecting that high. That test is good, but kind of scary, because it's got a lot of really precise things and you think "how do you know I do that?"

You're right, a neurologist makes the dx. I think you have to have a phd to tell someone conclusively that they have something wrong with them.
That's why I never managed to get a dx myself, because there are only a few qualified people who can do it, and it's really expensive and troublesome. My mother would have to come and tell them what I was like as a child, and all this stuff. I went to a GP but all he said was that he could give me anti-depressants. I didnt even look at him, I have no idea what he looked like. It just made me more angry and then just sad. It's nice to have an idea of what's wrong with you, but I can only base it on things like that quiz, and my only other Aspie friend. She singled me out at a party and pretty much told me that it's obvious to her that I'm AS. I think it was the first conversation either of us had all night.

I'm rambling on about this. I feel quite strongly about it.

I have high functioning autism. There are people in my family that have the same signs.

It's not just about talking, it's alot of different factors. People that say "You don't look autistic" are idiots. There is no autistic look. There may be similarities in mannerisms and eye contact issues but higher functioning autistics can learn to make eye contact and it can be an on and off issue depending on who they are around.

Before you rush off and pay money to a psychiatrist, psychologist or neurologist write down symptoms.

If you want someone to talk to about this subject pm me
