Loss Of Childhood Memories

OK. I have a family member who confided to me a few months ago that they don't have any memories of their childhood. This is especially strange considering we grew up side by side. If I reminisce about a birthday party or a specific day they don't remember. That in itself is odd. I just had a friend of mine reveal the same thing. I know victims of violent crimes, rape, and molestation can repress traumatic events for years. But this doesn't make sense in these cases. First off, neither was molested. (That they know of- and it's a safe bet neither was.) Secondly, it doesn't seem that a particularly traumatic memory was repressed. More like all memories. They still remember everyone they've encountered throughout their lives. They're both males of the same approximate age.

It's very strange. I've never heard of this before. I tried to look it up online to see if there is some kind of psychological syndrome. All I could think to type in was "childhood memory loss/psychology". I couldn't find anything, though. Has anyone else on here ever heard of something like this?

Maybe the family member was having a bad day or something? At any rate maybe the person just didn't feel like talking about certain childhood memories. Even for very well adjusted people childhood to some degree is confusing as all hell.

Lots of things can cause memory loss. I was trying to remember the other day when I started seeing my therapist, but tbh it could be anytime from a year ago until the Spring of this year.

If they're repressing something, then the way I see it is that we're repressing it for a reason. I sure as hell don't want to know what I'm hiding from myself.

I've done this, not entirely, I do remember my childhood, but a lot less than the average person. I was a unhappy child with some mental issues and a lot of anxiety. No trauma or molestation occured, just unstableness.
