Pharmaceutical companies send doctors on trips to Hawaii, the Carribean, Brazil, Europe and the like. They send them gift baskets full of Ipods and Rolex watches and $300 pens. They do all of these things with the unspoken understanding that in exchange, the doctors will prescribe that company's drug to nearly every patient they have, whether it is appropriate or not.

Yes. Respectable drug pushers for respectable drug manufacturers like Roche and Glaxo, Smith & Kline. When you really think about it, what's the big difference between Adderall and meth; Morphine and black tar heroin? It's all basically the same thing, chemically.

Though admittedly, I always felt safer taking pharmaceuticals. And it's a lot easier to doctor shop than it is to find good street connections. Way more expensive, though.
