Question cannabis use and chances of developing Schizoprenia.

I've smoked Cannabis for years, I dont do it as much as I used to. I am a paranoid person, sometimes think people are talking about me but this maybe more self-conscious then being paranoid.

anyway, I work in a acute mental health ward and sometimes we get people who are admitted and diagnosed with Paranoid Schizophrenia. A lot of my work colleagues argue that its due to cannabis smoking. Ive kept quiet on the subject but I dont think its the only reason why a person may develop schizophrenia.

What are your views on the subject? Is cannabis to blame or is there something else behind the illness?

i think it can defintly make people with underlying mental problems/people who have mental illness running in their family(mentally "vunerable" people) develop mental illness more so than if they hadnt smoked it. without a doubt. the mind is obviously very fragile and anything that is constantly changing chemicals in yr brain cant be good in the long term.?

it affects the part of your brain which supresses certain thoughts, and schizophrenia is pretty much a broken thought supression gland/cortex/area of brain.

some people should not take drugs. some should.

a lot of people i know who smoke it regularly experience psychosis, my ex has a LOT of problems because of it.
it's been linked to mental health problems, especially in teenagers, i remember watching some BBC show on it
obviously it's not the only reason, but i think some people are more prone to it and don't realise it.
