Counselling

I know a lot of people here have been through counselling, so I just wondered if anyone found it useful or had a breakthrough. I'm finding it really pointless. Don't get me wrong the woman is really nice and understanding, but it is more like having a cup of tea with your gran. She sits and listens and I'm as honest as can be, but I just don't feel like it is going anywhere. I can sit and talk to friends and relatives about the same stuff, and it isn't any different. I'm not devoid of logic, and I understand how irrational the things she points out can seem without her doing so.

My dad had to see a proper psychotherapist person, which has really helped him as they have delved into his development and how he has manufactured a certain negative side to his personality (one of the many things wrong with the poor man) but it cost him like £60 ($100?) an hour and I just can't afford that. Has anyone had any luck?

i go to therapy once a week and i benefit a lot from it in some areas, and in other areas it seems i'm really stuck.

i think it really, really depends on the therapist too.
is there any way you might be able to find another one that you can afford?

Is it CBT therapy you're having? I found CBT really good.

Brita is on a distinguished road
I have been in therapy for years and I dont find it helpful, but Ive had different therapists n just as you feel your connecting they make a career move n leave. This really sucks as you gotta meet a new person n go through the same shit again.

At moment Ive been with current therapist for couple of years, but from weekly support she has reduced it to monthly, and I dont feel she knows me, understands me or certainly she putting barriers up to avoid me. It can be very painful...rejection from frioends n lovers, n fqamily is hard enough, if someone who is paid to see you rejects you - then you feel real baaaaad.

But thats just my experience - some therapists are really caring (I've heard?) - its worth perservering for a bit, you can maybe try another type of therapy/therapist/counselour but at the end of the day - we all got different needs/problems - n the meds are what keep me going. The therapy or psych bollox can sometimes change an ok day into a bad one.

sorry if it sounds negative...im not in a good mood right now

hope you find a good headspace

Don't worry about the negativity Brita, I can imagine that is so frustrating.

I've never had CBT, can you get it free on the NHS? They've passed me on to several people and they all seem to think I'm just a bit confused with life, which is saying something.

I came off meds because they weren't doing anything. But I feel like I need to go back and try some others in case they work better. Can you get any that help with motivation?
