| | | my very own 'im quitting smoking' thread i dont want to use someone elses
and really i want to make this sort of a journal thing like anabitch's weight loss journal thing
i want people to make me feel ashamed when i do bad.
ive been smoking for 13 years and im SICK of it.
okay so. i was going to quit smoking cold turkey after this pack, but
then
i bought some vodka and another pack,
but that doesnt mean im not really willing to try, im just reallyweak.
i need to pick a plan of action and stick with it.
i also need a starting off point because i cant go cold turkey, and i have two strategies which im considering:
1_ restrict myself to only smoking half a pack a day (instead of one whole pack) for two weeks and then cut back even more after that. maybe cut one cig every 2 days or something.
or
2- only smoke half a cigarette at a time instead of a full one.
im thinking 1 is best way to go. what do you think?
i did really good today, ive only had 11 cigarettes and im about to go to sleep hopefully.
im also trying to chnge my smoking routines, and holding out until i really need a smoke instead of just smoking whenever i feel like it.
im DREADING not being able to smoke when drinking and the possibility of gaining weight. maybe i can trade this addiction in with stepping up my workout game. |

| | | Cutting down is just prolonging the withdrawl phase. You'll probably need at minimum a year to get readjusted to going day to day without cigs. It's a re-learning process. And yes, abstaining from alky during this time is probably a good idea. You may even find you don't need that as much anymore afterwards as well. |

i envy people taht quit smoking and then say they are repulsed by the smell of smoke. i want to be repulsed |

Cutting down can help, but just don't drag it out for too long. Your body has adapted and became adjusted to a comfortable level of nicotine, so you'll be ok for a bit before that nagging feeling starts even when only smoking a few. If you catch yourself self-rationalizing about, 'well if I just have one now then later I'll skip that one instead.' When those thoughts start, you're losing the battle. |

| | | when your pack is empty and you have no more cigarettes in the house, throw out all of your ashtrays, even if you have really nice ceramic ones from the 50's, like i did. throw them in the trashcan and just dont buy another pack of cigarettes. when those cravings hit you like an insanity wave all inside of your mind and body, lay down on your bed and experience the entire thing letting it in, allowing it all in your mind and body rather than fighting it. try to think of nothing or little more than this will pass and this is part of the addiction, and things might pop up in your head from your past or something, take them into consideration accept them and let go.
sorry to get all buddhist on you, but thats the way i did it. it really helped me.
i also quit drinking because i knew if i drank alcohol i would smoke. know yourself and what you do. i quit going to shows, because it was a trigger. after about six months, i began to slowly integrate shows back in my life, but i didnt drink for years, because i knew how weak i was.

| | | cold turkey is the only way to do it and stay off it. dont make excuses, just decide not to do it and stick with that decision. when you get an urge chew sugarfree gum and just let it pass. the urges only last a few minutes max, you can deal with it.
trace, why the fuck do you guys mix it?

| | | Just cut back if it's a problem. At least it's legal. You should at least be able to have a few once and a while. Why quit? Just find something else to do. Why go completely off the deep end with it? I don't see why it has to be all or nothing all the time. You should take up drinking again too after you get off parole. |

(smoked less pot AND tobacco). as for burnout, you get that no matter what. weed is weed.

| | | I've never smoked, but I remember my psychology telling the class how he quit smoking by puttinig a rubber band on his wrist; everytime he had a craving he snapped the rubber band to remind himself not to give in to the craving. I'm sure it gets incredibly annoyinig afterwords so i guess you end up smoking less and less. Good luck to ya! |

how do you feel about giving the carton away or throwing it away?
for me, if i get an idea in my head to do something, if i dont act on it soon or even immediately, i lose momentum and fail.
you can always wait until the stars line up again and then quit. its all internal. no one can really tell you exactly how to do it. youll know when the time is right. act on it when you feel it.

But I just read some reports saying a few cigs a day is still pretty bad. I dunno.

internally i know im ready to quit and this feeling has been growing over the past few months. through many years of smoking i never entertained the thought of quitting, but now i am ready.
and by now i mean, until im through the carton. im going to start weening by the maybe the 8th pack and then cold turkey.
TO BE CONTINUED.... |

um i have a suggestion - not that i've tried to quit or anything (pffft are you insane)
but apparently, what can help, is changing the habits which go hand in hand with smoking.
like, if you're used to having a durry with your cawfee in the morning, maybe this time have a cawfee and um i dunno - a muffin?
or have a juice and leave the cawfee until you're at work.
actually
just ignore me, i really have no idea.
lol at the muffin suggestion. |
