Getting tonsils removed..?

Apparently i have these crazily huge scarred tonsils, small nose cavities & possibly crap adenoids (sp?)
I went to see the specialist today & he tried to go up my nose with one of those tiny cameras but he couldnt get up there. And he said if he was in my situation he'd get my tonsils out, my adenoids checked out and perhaps get my nose fixed up.

I'm not really into the whole surgery idea though.. It's pretty pricey/major/scary.

Should i get a second/third opinion? I've heard a lot of these specialists just like pushing for surgery.

Thoughts?

get a second opinion if you're not sure
i had my tonsils (& i think my adenoids too) out when i was 4 so i don't really remember it but i know that before i used to get really ill with tonsilitus every month and now i don't, it went really well for me & i got to go home the day after the surgery.
i think it can be worse for adults though.

Just plan on about two weeks of downtime and going on a liquid diet. And yes, even liquid hurts to swallow at first. Don't believe the ice cream hype, it hurts as well at first. In the end was it worth it? With all the trouble I had out of my tonsils, absolutely.

Thats the thing though, I'm not in any pain. I had a few bouts of tonsillitis last year but nothing major. The only thing that has ever bothered me about it all is that i pretty much continuously have fluid in my ears because my tonsils block the drainy tube things between my ear & my throat. So i have a bit of trouble with my hearing. ( I told the specialist this & he was still like "well if i was you i'd get them out.")
But after hearing about all the pain you have to go through to get them out it doesn't sound like its worth it to me..
