Quitting Smoking

I have to quit smoking. I can't say I want to which will make it harder for me to quit, but I just have to do it. And I also want to lose about 20 lbs in the process. blah, I mean what else should I impose on myself?

So how did those of you who quit smoking quit? hypnosis-lovers need not respond. Chewing gum might have come handy but I can't say I like chewing gum.

Good luck!
With both things, a very general response to quitting smoking seems to be oral fixation. Not so functional when you're trying to lose weight.

The weight thing is not necessary but I want to get in certain outfits. It will be hard trying to quit the ciggies and at the same time going down a dress size or two. I guess I have to bring out the masochist in me and JUST DO IT.

well hey, cold turkey works for some people. Not necessarily the marjority but that in itself could in incentive! I've tried quitting a number of times. The only times I've gone for long periods were when I went cold turkey. Then I stopped caring.

So just don't stop caring.

Health is important. and whatnot. Honestly, I'm a jerk - it is and I wish you all the luck.

Thanks. I am an all or nothing kind of person, so I guess cold turkey would work better for me than just doing it in gradual, slow stages. I just need to have something to occupy my hands with......hmm, I can start knitting. Gotta re-learn it though because the last time I knitted anything was when I was 12.
